When it comes to language, different cultures often interpret different sayings in different ways. So when Friday's (June 30) Jeopardy! featured a category call "Stay Woke," many people assume that it was referring to a phrase that currently gets a lot of use in today's world, especially within the urban (yes, I mean black) community. Upon seeing this twitter, and especially black twitter, went crazy, with many cheering the show for being "with it" and for celebrating the culture. You can see the excitement in some of the tweets below:
Then then the first answer came and everyone watching realized that when Jeopardy! says "Stay Woke" they quite literally mean the act of staying awake, much to the disappointment to those watching.
The questions’ answers included melatonin, caffeine, and the stimulant product NoDoz, incase you were wondering.
This isn't the first time categories on the quiz show turned heads, however. They once featured a category call "What Women Want" that feature answers like a vacuum cleaner, pilates, and jeans that make butts look good. So in many ways this mix up could have been worse, at least no contestant referred to 2Pac as "Two Pack" again.
