Kanye West fans showed their love for Kanye's late mother, Donda West, in a huge way. It was reported that fans were planning to pay tribute to Ms. West on the tenth anniversary of her passing (Friday, Nov. 10) by streaming her son's track, "Hey Mama." Now we know that they followed through with a huge number of streams, 700,000 in 24 hours.
According to The Ringer, the Late Registration track was streamed 700,000 times, increasing the song’s spins from 23.6 million to 24.3 million over a course of 24 hours. However, it did not chart on Spotify, likely because Spotify does not count repeat listens in their streaming calculations.
It is also being said that people streamed the song to combat the streams of Taylor Swift's new album. Swift and West have been in a "feud" on and off for the last few years.
No matter what the reason for the uptake in streams, I am sure Kanye is grateful for his fans and the love they show to Donda West.
