Laila Ali is teaming up with discount retailer TJ Maxx for a new project aimed at encouraging women to overcome stereotypes, something Ali has done her entire life. The undefeated boxing champion, wellness expert, TV host and mother has been a champion in and out of the ring, always adapting to the ever changing landscape of her career. This is why she has been chosen to lead The Maxx You Project.
The project launched Tuesday morning (April 25), and women are encouraged to share their life goals and answer the question “How will you Maxx you?” online or in select stores until May 21 at noon. Then eight women will be selected to join Laila Ali and "Shark Tank" star Barbara Corcoran at a workshop in Los Angeles this summer.
“Single moms who worked hard jobs, but they still picked their kids up from school, were there for them, put food on the table—those are the women that I really appreciate and look up to because I saw them as being so strong and that’s the kind of mother that I want to be,” Ali says. “I want to be able to work. I want to be able to go after my dreams and my goals, but still be hands on with my children.”
Through the mentorship of Ali and Corcoran, this program aims to provide them with the support and guidance they’ve been seeking.
Many fans of McDonald's aren't exactly "lovin it" today as the company has announced that starting May 1st it will be phasing out HI-C Orange and replacing it with a new drink. This news isn't easy to swallow for many fans, some of them expressing their displeasure on Twitter:

They will be the exclusive new home to Sprite TropicBerry starting in July. Only time will tell if fans will come to love that drink as well.

While the origin of 4/20 isn't quite exciting, 4/20 is not only recognized as a holiday to indulge, but it has also evolved into a widely used term, even a noun to describe your acceptance of the activity: “4/20 friendly”. To those whole smoke regularly, the holiday might not be too far off from the norm but whether you roll it, vape it, dab it or eat it - the world comes together to dedicate a day to the peace pipe. If you consider yourself a foodie this list may just right for you. Just like style, food trends change constantly, one minute chipotle is the it pepper, next thing you know sriracha is stealing the spotlight. What follows is a list of new food trends you may (or may not) want to give a chance.
1. The Jackfruit
The jackfruit is the perfect go to for vegetarians who still want to enjoy those summer cookouts with having to feast on black beans and tofu exclusively. The fibrous fruit can be use as a topping for nachos, a meat substitute in sandwiches, and even in savory dishes like curry. Try this BBQ recipe out if you're curious.
This trend is a familiar one. It trended in the 90's as a broccoli alternative. Now it is back and is looking to take over. New products like Cauliflower Rice are popping up in stores and it using it as a bread substitute has been a major thing since 2015. Cauliflower is showing up as pizza crust, bread for grilled cheese, rice and more. It can be tasty and is less carbs and fat than the starchy norms so it may be worth a try, maybe as this pizza.
Yep you read that right, charcoal is a food trend. Now it is important to note that we aren't talking about biting down on the stuff that gives flavor and fire to your BBQ, no we are talking about activated charcoal, a supplement that has been used for years as a remedy for gassyness are as a hangover cure. While the medical benefits of this detoxify add in are still up for debate, the use of it continues to grow. Charcoal can now be found in juices, bread, Ikea hot dogs and now even ice cream. Not sure about how it affects the taste, but people are definitely buying in too this craze.
4. Purple Foods
From the pitch black of the last entry to a purple parade, this food trend is all about indigos and violets and eggplant too. Purple is popping up everywhere in the grocery stores, from purple fruits and vegetables to purple corn flakes and tortilla chips. The power of purple goes beyond just it appealing color, the vibrant hue in naturally purple foods often indicates high nutrient density and antioxidants. 5. Weed Is The New Beer
With marijuana being legalized in many states, and more states considering following the trend, one area that has taken a hit in sales is the alcohol industry. Many people, especially millennials, are choosing the sticky green over the aged brew, which is why the industry is looking to boost sales by infusing a little cannabis in their potions. From cannabis in cocktails to experimental weed-and-whiskey pairings, the spirits and cocktail industry is pondering how the two industries can play well together. While we wait for the industry to catch up, here are a few concoctions you can try at home for yourself, where allowed by law that is. As always please drink and smoke responsibly.

Houston's second annual Black Restaurant Week will be April 17 through the 30, when the city will highlight black-owned businesses.
Among the notable places participating are Holley's Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Lucille's, Kitchen 713, Da Marco's, The Shack and several others.
"Last year, HOUBRW attracted nearly a thousand locals to its inaugural celebration within just one week. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm led HOUBRW organizers to extend this year's event to two weeks with added restaurants and new competitors along with the exciting addition of a food-truck park and block party to its lineup," spokesperson Kelly King said in a release. "Houston Black Restaurant Week seeks to increase the awareness, support and (patronizing) of black restaurants and chefs in the city."
A portion of the proceeds from each meal sold at participating restaurants will be donated to Blue Triangle Community Center, Commercial Kitchen Renovation "a commercial kitchen development to be utilized by budding caterers and the community at-large."

When you have the level of success that a burger chain like McDonald's has, change is always tough. The "Golden Arches" has always been keen on adding "new" to their menu, but the almost never mess with their classics. This year, however, things a been different, to say the least. The first change to their regular fare came with the introduction of two new variations on the Big Mac, the Mac Jr. and the Grand Mac. Now, they company has announced a change to another iconic menu item, one that will have a long lasting effect. The Quarter-Ponder w/ Cheese (QPC) will now be made with only fresh beef.
The change to fresh beef will be a gradual one as the chain says they will be making the change to all stores by 2018. The change to the QPC has already been in effect for about a year in 14 stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and started in November for 77 Oklahoma stores. So far feed back from those customers has been positive.
The change to fresh beef is being described as a "customer-driven" change, but one can't help but wonder if this is all because of pressure from rival Wendy's who brags about using "fresh, never frozen" beef in all their burgers. No matter the reason for the change, Wendy's was sure to respond to the announcement on social media with this:
