Fashion retailer H&M is currently under fire for a controversial advertising for one of there children's hoodies. The ire is because of the use of a young black model to show a hoodie with the phrase “coolest monkey in the jungle.” The image has been met with outrage, especially on social media, because of the racial overtones of the sweater. Now, the company must also deal with the loss of a major spokesperson too. The Weeknd like many was also vexed upon seeing the image and decided to sever ties with the company.
The Weeknd has worked with H&M extensively and released his second collection last September, and performed at their fashion show in September. Despite the apology released by the retailer, it seems as though the PR nightmare isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
