This week saw the debut of three movies looking to do well at the box office, but it was only one film that made a big splash. The Meg, an action/horror film featuring a 70 foot shark, took the top spot in it's first week, topping the charts with a $44.5 million debut.
Coming in second was last weeks top movie, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which added another $20 million to bring it's total for three weeks to $162 million. In third was Disney's live-action Winnie the Pooh flick, Christopher Robin. The fourth and fifth spots were snatched up by debuting films Slender Man and BlacKkKlansman, respectfully.
As for the rest of the top ten, The Spy Who Dumped Me took sixth while Mama Mia! Here We Go Again dropped to seventh. The Equalizer 2, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and Antman and Wasp finished off the top ten.
