Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth Announces Pregnancy, Will Be First Senator To Give Birth While In Office
Congratulations are in order for Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth. The junior senator is set to add to her family and she will make history doing so. The 49-year-old lawmaker has announced that she is pregnant with her second child, said to be a girl, and is due in the spring. Her first daughter, Abigail, is 3 years old.
While Duckworth won't be the first congresswoman to give birth while in office, 10 other female lawmakers have previously done so, she will be the first to do so as a member of the US Senate.
Duckworth was elected to the Senate in November of 2016.
