Erykah Badu, the soulful queen who has given us amazing hit songs like "Bag Lady", "Love Of My Life", and "On & On", wants to try out her talents on something new. She is contemplating hitting the stage as a stand-up comic.
During a stint on NPR's Tiny Desk, the singer explained that she has been giving the art form more thought recently. “I would hope. I want to,” Badu said when asked about getting into the new profession. “Michael Blackson always says, when you come to LA next time, you’re going to go on stage. Just do it. Just go do it and see. Just try it. So we’ll see. Let’s see if that’s my thing, one of my things. Could be. Could be not. We gotta see.”
While time will tell if Erykah makes the jump to comedy, we will soon find out if she has any comedy chops at all. The singer has reportedly landed a supporting role in the upcoming comedy What Men Want, which stars Taraji P. Henson. The film is a gender-flipped remake of the 2000 hit What Women Want (originally starring Mel Gibson).
Check out Erykah Badu’s Tiny Desk performance in the video below, and read the singer’s full interview here.
As the 24K Magic Tour gets closer to it's start date, Bruno Mars is doing his best to make it the most entertain tour ever. One way to do that is by adding must see acts, and he is doing that with the addition of Ciara to the lineup.
Mars announced the exciting news in a video message on Instagram. “I was trying really hard to make a cool tour poster once we got confirmation on who’s joining us on the finale of The 24K Magic Tour,” he wrote. “But in my excitement I forgot I suck at arts and crafts. Swipe left for the official announcement…” In a butchered PhotoShop video post, he revealed Ciara was the surprise guest.
Following the initial announcement, it was revealed that Ella Mai and Charlie Wilson were also added to the lineup.
Cici is reportedly replacing Cardi B, who was originally tapped to open for Mars. The rapper announced in July 2018, that she was pulling out of the tour schedule due to the recent birth of her daughter Kulture.
Despite fans’ disappointment, Ciara will probably make a great addition to the team. The singer has found success with her recent single “Level Up” and recently dropped a dance video for “Freak Me,” featuring Tekno.
The 24K Magic World Tour kicks off on Sept. 7, in Denver.

Empire, a San Francisco-based independent distribution, recording and publishing company, has forged a strong arm in the music game by offering non-traditional contracts to recording artists. “The idea was not to lock people in and get rights from them,” founder Ghazi Shami told Billboard in 2016. ”The approach was, ‘What’s the fastest path to business?’ And if we start to do good things together then naturally those rights will evolve into other revenue streams: publishing, touring and things of that nature.”
The company’s roster includes D.R.A.M., Remy Ma, Tyga, Young Dolph, and the late XXXTentacion.
