The “Beef” between rap artists has been a longstanding tradition. From the days of Tupac vs Notorious BIG to today's rappers Drake and Pusha T. This beef is not just in male categories, but also now more prevalent in female categories as well.
Most recently there was a beef created between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. While there are some who would rather fan the flames of the beef, many are asking why can’t we like or support them both?
Was there a secret quota created that states you have an allowance of one female rap artist? Yes, this question goes against the tradition within the industry that’s been going on for years. Isn’t ok to question things that are in place? Isn’t it ok to form your own thoughts, opinions, and change your own personal narrative?
There is an argument that states the beef sparks a creativity that is not often in place if the sense of competition is not created. Understandably so, however the competition can exist without the underlying division.
If the black community is to activate the powerful force that it is, we must exercise that power in all areas, including music.
