As a little girl I can remember waking up to the smell of bleach and the sounds of my mother singing her usual tunes! We already knew what time it was, and slightly dreaded the sounds of Rocksteady, Respect, Do Right Woman, and many more. We knew it was time for us all to get out of bed and get cleaning. This tradition was a long lasting tradition and was never substituted with another artist unless somehow cleaning day was switched to Sunday.
Those days bring back so much nostalgia. I cherish those memories and will always be reminded of them when I hear the soulful singing of Ms. Aretha Franklin.
Today, the legend behind the soundtrack of my Saturdays as a child has passed away. At age 76, Aretha Franklin has died of Advanced Pancreatic Cancer of the Neuroendocrine type. She leaves behind a loving family and adoring fans.
Today is a day that reminds us that those legends living today are a true gem that time will only lend itself for just a moment. Ms. Franklin will be missed, but her music and legacy will live forever.
