The Last Day at a job can always be interesting, and this was definitely the case Thursday (Nov. 2) at the Twitter offices. A rogue employee decided to celebrate his last day at the social media giant by deleting President Donald Trump’s personal Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump.
The account briefly vanished from the internet on Thursday, as many people noticed. Around 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, the page was suddenly inaccessible. Given the president’s frequent use of the platform, confusion began to circulate as to why the account might be deleted.
An hour later, Twitter revealed that the former employee made the "mistake" of deleting the account on their way out.
"Earlier today @realdonaldtrump’s account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again," said Twitter via the @TwitterGov account.
For some, the temporary deletion was seen a just due to some of his controversial tweets. However, Twitter has said that it was purely an error and the deletion was not a punishment in any way.
