It's October. The tenth month of the year. The holidays are fast approaching. Easter is 5.5 months away. And yet... There's already announcements for the biggest show of the year. The ticket dates for Wrestlemania 34 were announced earlier in the week, and with it, announcements for other festivities of the weekend. While Wrestlecon info is scarce, WWNLive already has their entire schedule known. And a packed schedule it is. But it begs the question... how much is too much?
Obviously, the Wrestlemania weekend schedule is well-known by now, aside from the day change last year. Hall of fame, Takeover, Mania, Raw, Smackdown Live. It's a set-in-stone schedule that unlikely to change, unless SDL goes back to Thursday's. Wrestlemania "weekend" is now a week. Maybe NXT can start doing fill TV taping, too. Anything is possible.
But with it comes...everything else. Wrestlecon, WWNLive, Ring of Honor, and other smaller companies. It started modest, with ROH, but then the conventions started, and it's grown from there. Now, WWNLive has 11 shows, including shows starting at midnight. Wrestlecon has expended to 3 days with 10 shows themselves. ROH just had one of their largest crowds ever, then did TV taping. It's exploded to almost be too much.
Now, I'm not saying everyone should flat stop. There's certain fans that will go to the host city just to avoid WWE. Fans will be fans. They want to spend their money how they spend it. But, it feels like eventually, you'll burn fans out.
Why bring this up? Cause I was one of them. I smashed in as much as I could for Orlando. Wrestlemania running long meant I would be late for WrestleCircus vs. Revolver. It was supposed to start at Midnight, local. Then got pushed... again and again. Until finally, it started at 1:30in the morning. ...yup. The show was great. Everyone left happy especially after the Undertaker event they had witnessedhours before. But, by the time it was 4:45 in the morning, and I was eating McDonald's while sitting on the bathroom floor of my hotel room (didn't want to wake up the others in the room with the bag), I kinda wondered... "what the hell is wrong with me?"
I still wasn't done. I still had Raw. But at that point, I had been to 7 shows in 4 days all over Florida. I did do the 8th, too. I skipped SDL instead of making it 9. Thank God. And yet, as I look at the schedule for New Orleans, I wonder... what the hell do I do, now?
Despite WWN's troubles, they'll continue on with their tradition. Progress, Shimmer, Evolve, everyone will be there. So will the fans, hopefully. I have no doubt Highspots will as well, with Wrestlecon. As a matter of fact, it's expanding to include Sunday this time. But yet, I'm still wondering, where does it end?
