KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Glenn Jacobs, better known as the towering WWE villain Kane, is stepping into the political ring with a bid for mayor in Tennessee. Jacobs has filed paperwork naming a campaign treasurer, the first step needed to raise or spend money in an effort to succeed term-limited Knox County mayor Tim Burchett in 2018. Tea party groups urged Jacobs to challenge U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander in the Republican primary in 2014, but he ended up deciding against a run. Jacobs isn't the first professional wrestling star to try his hand at politics in Tennessee. Jerry ''The King'' Lawler, who is known for his feud with comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s, has made unsuccessful bids to be elected mayor of Memphis.
The last time the WWE had a brand split, one thing that every fan new was that after Wrestlemania some familiar faces will be in new places. As Wrestlemania 33 approaches, it seems like that will be the case with this current brand split. With changes seemingly on the horizon, many rumors have surfaced about the fate of some top superstars. One rumor, which was reported by PWInsider Elite, says that the WWE is discussing moving Roman Reigns to SmackDown Live. The idea is that they would want to get away from his feuds with Kevin Owens and allow him to work with the blue brands top heels like Baron Corbin and The Miz, the latter of whom is considered to be one of the top heels in the company. Another reason why this may happen is that the company doesn't believe SmackDown Live has any strong faces and since they still believe Reigns can be the next John Cena it would be a logical move.
Kurt Angle is a legendary wrestler, it true. He is the only person in the history of professional wrestling to win Olympic gold in wrestling. He is a 12-time world champion (6 WWE, 6 TNA/Impact), a former IWGP Heavyweight champion (NJPW) and has held 8 other belts in his illustrious career. Oh and he also is a two-time NCAA champ. He is already a member of the International Sports Hall of Fame, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, the TNA Wrestling Hall of Fame, the National Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame, the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame and the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Hall of Fame. As of March 31, 2017, Angle we also be in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Since the announcement of Angle's induction, one question has been on the mind of the WWE fans, who will induct Kurt? The list of potential speakers was long. Angle has had major runs feuding against the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Undertaker, Triple H, Big Show and Brock Lesnar, to name a few. However, the person gets the honor of inducting Kurt Angle will be...the 16-time WWE/World Champion, John Cena.
It is only fitting that the man whose own Hall of Fame worthy career started with a epic face-off against Kurt Angle will be the one sending Angle to the Hall of Fame. Cena and Angle have had some amazing matches during their run together, but it all started with this Smackdown showdown:
The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will mark the official return of Kurt Angle to the WWE after leaving in 2006. You can see Kurt and all of the other new HOF inductees on March 31st only on the WWE Network.
