Yesterday (November 1), Disney kicked off the month right when they released the names of the cast of the upcoming Lion King CG-animated reboot. The cast features several huge names including James Earl Jones as Mufasa (quite naturally), Donald Glover as Simba, Alfie Woodard as Sarabi. But the biggest news of all was that the Queen B, Beyoncé will be in the role of Nala, the true hero of the story in my eyes.
In March, Variety reported that Beyoncé was Disney’s top choice and they were willing to accommodate her busy schedule. At the time, she was pregnant with twins.
While the big news is all about Beyoncé, Glover, Jones and Woodard, the rest of the cast is star studded as well. The cast includes Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Eric Andre (Azizi), John Oliver (Zazu), John Kani (Rafiki), Keagan Michael Key (Kamari), Florence Kasumba (Shenzi), JD McCrary (Young Simba), Shahadi Wright Joseph (Young Nala) and Billy Eichner (Timon).
Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) will direct, while Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 2) is writing.
The Lion King is set to hit theaters in summer 2019.
