With the amazing success of Wonder Woman in theaters this year ($384,403,279 made as of July 20) it comes as no surprise that a sequel would be ordered. Now we not only know that the Gal Gadot led film franchise will get another crack at box office success, but we also know when.
Warner Bros. has officially announce that Diana Prince will be returning to the big screen for Wonder Woman 2 on December 13, 2019.
More good news for the Wonder Woman franchise includes the return of director Patty Jenkins who has confirmed she is willing to return for Wonder Woman 2 after recently being non-committal about her future involvement. "I had an epiphany about Wonder Woman 2," Jenkins told the audience at a Women in Film screening of her movie. "I was like, you don't have to do this."
Checker Book Publishing Group announced today that game designer Wayne Shaw has been brought in to help develop the latest edition of Superhero 2044. Wayne Shaw’s work modifying the first edition of Superhero 2044 helped create the role playing game classic system, Champions.
Publisher Mark Thompson remarked, “We are updating Superhero 2044 so we needed someone who knows the ins and outs of the world like the back of their hand. Understanding how numbers on a page translate to game play is an art not a science so we brought in the artist who knows the system better then anyone else. Between him and Steve Perrin, this games is going to be so much fun!” Superhero 2044 will be crowdfunding production for a role playing game. The first campaign should launch August 16, 2017.
Saturday at the Disney D23 Expo, Marvel Studios premiered a secret trailer for the May 2018 Avengers: Infinity War. After the people in attendance were treated to that gem, they also got the first look at the four new villains for the movie, the Black Order – the four “children” of the mad titan Thanos.
When the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come together to battle Thanos, he will not come alone. We have already met two of his "children" in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, Karen Gillan’s Nebula and Zoe Saldana’s Gamora. Those two have broken away from the mad titan, but the four who remain have yet to do so, and the sound like the are just as brutal as Thanos himself.
Here are the new characters, who truly are fresh off the shelf. They were only introduced to the Marvel Comics world in 2013:
Corvus Glaive – This enforcer, whose job was to shakedown planets for gifts that would enrich Thanos, was immortal as long as his mystical blade remained unbroken. He was married to …
Proxima Midnight – This warrior used her spear – which was forged from a sun trapped in an alternate reality – to launch a shattering attack on Black Panther’s nation of Wakanda.
Ebony Maw – Not the most powerful of the Black Order, but a brilliant and manipulative thinker who wields power of persuasion over most beings. He famously tangled with Doctor Strange in the comics.
Black Dwarf – Don’t let the name fool you. This brawler is physically hulking and has superhuman strength and nearly impenetrable muscle mass. The bigger they come, the harder they fall is a cliché – but it may apply here.
Performers for these creatures haven’t been announced, but the characters will at least partly be performed via motion capture.
We’ll be learning more as the destruction of Earth looms closer.
Winter arrived in July with the seventh-season premiere of Game Of Thrones, but there’s nothing cold about the HBO series’ viewership. Coming back from the longest hiatus in its history, the drama nabbed a series high showing for a first-run telecast with an average 10.1 million viewers.

The Season 7 premiere also saw the highest number of concurrent viewers across the streaming services HBO Go and HBO Now.

It should as no surprise, but "Spider-Man: Homecoming" dominated this weekends box office. The joint venture by Sony-Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios collected a massive $117 million at the domestic box office, a full $37 million more than studio estimates. This opening weekend total is the second highest for the Spiderman franchise, just behind 2007's "Spider-Man 3."
“Homecoming” is the only major release this weekend, so the top five are made up to familiar faces. Coming in second was “Despicable Me 3,” which is headed for a $34 million weekend, or a 53% drop from last weekend. “Baby Driver” is looking good in third, as positive word of a mouth helped it to a $12.8 million second weekend, just a 38% drop. For those who weren't excited about a teenage superhero, they still had “Wonder Woman” as the Amazon Princess continues to hold on with $10.1 million in its sixth weekend, and last and maybe least, “Transformers: The Last Knight” rounds out the top five with $6.3 million.
Damon Young and Panama Jackson have delivered some of the most insightful commentary on current events from the last nine years through their site, verysmartbrothas, com, but their future will now be seen on The Root, an afro-centric site from Gizmodo Media Group.
Young and Jackson will both hold the title of senior editors at The Root, which in June logged its best traffic month of the GMG era. VerySmartBrothas is being integrated as a standalone vertical.
“Damon and Panama are acutely attuned to the pulse of black America. They often put into words what our hearts definitely feel. Damon and Panama understand what is at stake in the black community in this present climate, and know how to tap into our politics and culture viscerally with humor, intelligence and wit," said The Root managing editor Danielle Belton.
The best part of this is not only do Young and Jackson now get a steady check from their hard work, but they can now pay freelancers too. A win-win for all involved.
Being the home-grown, Chicago-bred festival it is, every year since it’s inception eight years ago, North Coast Music Festival has teamed up with art collectives Ava Grey Designs (Creative Agency/Production House) + The Elder Tree to create a space that is part Living Art Gallery and part homage to the history of street art. With our obvious love of all things hip hop, it seemed like a natural fit for North Coast.
Artists from all over the world have painted the walls at North Coast, which now hang in art galleries and museums across Chicago.
This year CZR PRZ, Luke Sequeira and Nick Glazebrook of Ava Grey Designs + The Elder Tree have put together a lineup of painters that is a unique mix of styles:

And coming off of the success of last year’s pairing, the Living Gallery will be connected to the Silent Disco giving art enthusiasts the chance to listen to a special Living Gallery curated channel on their headphones while watching the painters create works of art in front of them, an experience unique to North Coast.
